SVA Design Limited
Design with
experience behind it.
Our philosophy
Drawn from the land,
shaped by its light,
built with its materials.
Good architecture begins with listening — to the site, to the client, to the climate. Before a single line is drawn, we take time to understand the particular qualities of a place: its aspect, its character, the way light moves across it through the year.
Our designs grow from the landscape rather than being imposed upon it. We work with New Zealand's native materials and building traditions — not as nostalgia, but because they are genuinely suited to this land and this climate.
The principal
Scott Autridge is the principal designer and founder of SVA Design Limited. Based in Thames, Scott has spent his career designing buildings that are genuinely responsive to their environment — homes that feel right in their landscape, that perform well in New Zealand's demanding climate, and that are a pleasure to live in.
What sets Scott apart is direct building experience — time spent on the tools before moving into architecture. That background gives him a first-hand understanding of how materials behave, how details are built in practice, and where design decisions have real consequences on site. It shows in drawings that are buildable, in specifications that are precise, and in relationships with builders built on mutual respect.
Scott brings a deep knowledge of local planning environments, builders, and materials — developed over years of practice across the Thames-Coromandel and Hauraki regions, and across New Zealand — to every new project.
How we work
We start by listening
Every project begins with a conversation — not a brief. We want to understand how you live, what matters to you, and what you hope your building will feel like long after you move in.
We design for place
We spend time on site before we spend time at the drawing board. A building should belong where it stands — in its aspect, its materials, its relationship to the land around it.
We stay with you
Our service runs from the first sketch to the final inspection. Scott is involved at every stage — design, documentation, and construction — so nothing is lost in translation.
